Listening on one device while two applications are open (different devices)

My Question or Issue

When I listen to spotify and start the app on my smartphone it stops playing. I can't start playing music on any device until the app (either desktop or smartphone) is closed, because the music stops after 5 seconds again

That's odd. So what you are experiencing is that you can't have Spotify open on more than one device, regardless which device?

Have you tried reinstalling Spotify on all your devices? You can read here how.
