Mini player shows the "Add to Library" button with a + icon, even if song is already in library.

Mini player shows the "Add to Library" button with a + icon, even if song is already in library.

I'm listening to Spotify (premium) via my iPhone using my airpods, but as I'm sat working on my PC, I also have the Windows 11 app open and I'm using spotify connect so I can change tracks, etc. via the desktop app to save me digging my phone out of my pocket.

When I use the normal view of the desktop application, Spotify correctly shows a track as being in my library (with the green tick icon), or gives me the '+' button to add the track if it isn't in my library, however when I switch to the mini player and have the main window minimised, I don't see the green tick in the mini player when the track is in my library, instead I see the '+' button. If I switch back to the main application window when this occurs, the main application window correctly shows me the green tick.

This doesn't seem to happen if i don't minimise the main window whilst the mini player is open.

See the attached screenshot.

Hey there @WalterWeight,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the ideas section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

The behavior you described is expected in some scenarios. The plus button you see on the mini player will add a specific track to your Liked Songs playlist. When the button in the mini player is highlighted in green and you see a check mark, it means the song was liked previously.

Nonetheless, if perhaps that song is already part of a playlist you’ve created, but it was not liked, then you won’t see the button highlighted in green on the mini player. In that sense, that song Erase me, which is visible on the screenshot, is most likely part of one of your playlists, but is not part of your Liked Songs playlist.

In that sense, make sure the song in question was added to your Liked Songs playlist as well, and not just to other of your playlists. Remember in some cases tracks can have more than one version uploaded by artists to the app, so make sure the one song playing is the same you added before to the Liked Songs. Since you were listening to a Radio, it’s possible that some other version of the same song was suggested to you.

If this was indeed added to your Liked songs, and you’re noticing inconsistencies, then we’d suggest you make sure you’re running the latest version of the app. You can check for possible new version updates in the three dot menu that you can find in the left-top of your screen in the desktop app. There, select Help> About Spotify. If there’s a new version available, you’ll see a button “restart to install”.

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need anything else, the Community is here for you.
