Playback stops with "Can't play the current track"

Solved!

Playback stops with "Can't play the current track"

Windows 7 x64 Enterprise

Spotify 1.0.16.104.g3b776c9e

Premium account

Around a week ago a new issue appeared: Each day, after playing several tracks, spotify would suddenly begin stopping playback after each played track, displaying a generic "Can't play this track" error. I have to manually click next - then it plays just fine until the end of a track.

I have searched quite a fair bit for this issue and tried the offered solutions

This happens only on one specific laptop. I am also using Spotify on another W7x64Ent, different laptop model, similar specs, as well as on xperia z with latest fw.

I keep all my spotify version strictly up to date, so it's unlikely it is a problem with a version.

It also does not seem to be a problem with the account, as on other devices it works just fine.

I have done a clear reinstallation as per (the very basic) instructions. No change.

I have tried enabling and disabling high quality streaming and crossfading. No change.

I have never used local resources and always turn these settings off right after installing, but nonetheless tried enabling and disabling again. No change.

At this point I think this should be addressed by support.

@Soundofus: Apparently, after 2 hours of playback, the problem does not reappear. While your post has not been the answer, it should be noted that in my particular case the problem was caused by the network. So if you have this, you might want to investigate if changing the network won't solve it. If it does, it is worth investigating what causes this. The network I have used earlier is unfortunately beyond my control.

Hello @xazzaxas and welcome to the community,

I have experienced the same problem time to time (I am on Windows 10).

Apparently, when it happens its seems to be :

- or a temporary very short loss of connection

- or a temporary very short problem with the Spotify servers of songs.

Do you have noticed if this happens when you listen offline?

Note: I'm not a Spotify employee.

Have the same issue, some albums/playlists won't play anymore (Some playlist have bonustracks and they (the bonustrack) seems to work but not the original album tracks).

@Soundofus: Thank for the welcome and input. This gave me an idea - maybe the automatic proxy detection in advanced settings is at fault here?

Set it to static type, HTTPS. No change.

That is not temporary, this problem has been around for more than a week and it is constant. After every track.

Just for the sake of a test, i have set one of my playlists to "available offline". Tracks are downloading correctly, playing correctly, no playback stopping.

I will have to try on a different network connection - it might be the cause of all this. Nonetheless, if there is an active connection, Spotify should just use that. If it is crashing because of temporary loss of connectivity, it would mean there is no prebuffering of next track and therefore it was not designed with reliability in mind...

Interestingly, after playing the local playlist for a bit, the online tracks have now ceased stopping.

I wonder whether this might be due to the fact that the session is kept open as a result of the big local playlist synchronizing for offline playback in the background.
