Private Sessions - Why are these artists on my profile?

When I put the artist I am listening to on private mode, there is a reason why I want it private and not published. Why does it still post on profile what I am listening to in private mode?????  The term "Private Session," is misleading and doesn't actually accomplish what is portrayed.  I would love to see that fixed! 🙂

Hey there @sethw, welcome to the community!

Sorry for any trouble this has brought you! Which profile are you referring to? Private sessions just don't share what you're listening to on Last.fm, Facebook, and other services. But you'll still get recommendations on what you listen to.

I think sethw is referring to the Spotify profile. I'm having the same problem -- I'll listen to an artist on private mode, but yet on my Spotify profile, it will show that artist under "Recently Played Artists." Is this a bug? Can it be fixed?

I don't think it is a bug, probably just a missing feature. Private session only stops your tracks being shared via Spotify social and to Facebook. You can hide your recently played artists from your public profile from the settings page though.

Thanks Peter. You say you can hide your recently played artists from your public profile from the settings page? I already had "Share my activity and what I listen to with my followers on Spotify" and "Show the Top Artists I've been listening to" both unchecked, but maybe there's something I'm missing? (I'm using the desktop app for Mac)

I have friends who I know use Spotify regularly but they have nothing under "Recently Played Artists" on their profiles! So odd.

"Show the Top Artists I've been listening to" is the option that will hide them from your profile. Be aware you will still see them when you view your own profile but anyone else should not be able to see them.
