Re: Can't stream to Google devices

Re: Can't stream to Google devices

Hi I'm having this problem now. Spotify Connect won't connect to my Google Home devices, such as Google Nest Hub Display. It happened on both ios app and the windows app. On the ios/windows app, it shows "connecting," but never went through. On the Google device, sometime it shows nothing, sometime it's just black screen, sometime it's the spotify logo. Sometime it seems connected since you hear the chime, but nothing showed up or played.

It also can't play just with the Google device alone using the Google assistant. For example, if I asked "Hey Google, play some music," it responds that it will play with spotify, but nothing went through.

I have tried many times with the spotify support, tried to delete/re-install, unlink/relink. Then it worked once. However, soon after, the problem is back. I tried on my own the process again, it still doesn't work. So frustrating.

It worked perfectly not long ago, I don't know what happened. I tried other apps, like Youtube, Apple Music, all works fine.

My Question or Issue

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with Spotify not connecting to my Google Home speaker group. I have three Wi-Fi speakers connected via Chromecast in a group in the Google Home app. Individually, all speakers work perfectly with Spotify and other Apps, and I can stream to the speaker group from various apps. However, when I try to stream to the speaker group using Spotify Connect, it just stays stuck on "Connecting" and never plays.

Details:

  • The issue occurs both on the Spotify Desktop app, the Android App and when using the browser. I can select the group, but it fails to connect and play.
  • Individual speakers work fine with Spotify Connect.
  • Other apps (e.g., TuneIn) have no issues streaming to the speaker group.

What I’ve tried so far:

  1. Cleared cache and reinstalled both the Spotify and Google Home apps.
  2. Unlinked and relinked my Spotify and Google Home accounts.
  3. Restarted the speakers and my router.
  4. Verified that Spotify is set as the default music provider in Google Home.
  5. Reconnected the speakers to Google Home.
  6. Renamed the speakers and the speaker group in Google Home.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue or have suggestions for a fix?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I agree that it shouldn’t have happened at all!

Another annoying issue is that connecting a chromecast isn’t automatic when launching the Spotify app. There should be an option to do that.
Could you do it?

What’s more the connectivity is lost every time music is paused after a few minutes, which is annoying.

Hi,

Yes this is annoying. Spotify has become buggy after all these years (10 years for me). Or is it Google ?

The car Apple Play works perfectly I must say though.

The problem seems to lie with Google devices only. Other apps that use Google stuff work perfectly mind you.

I also have been dealing with this issue on and off, also and the workaround is literally "On and Off".  Google has a long long running thread about countless problems dealing with casting to speakers and speaker groups. The workaround for the Spotify bug is to power cycle the speaker. I'm not sure if all speakers need this as I have set up all my speakers on smart plugs and with one click can reset all 14 of my speakers. Spotify from what I can see so far cares about their customers, google on the other hand has abandoned their customers!

I did try restart the google device. It's not just casting from your computer or phone. The spotify app on the google home device shows "Recommended Music" but when you click on any of them, it's just a black screen. Then after many seconds, the Google assistant said "sorry something went wrong." Of course I have tried unlink/relink many times in my google home app.

This is happening to me as well. Speakers chime as if connected, home app says connected, Spotify says connecting, then stops.

I have the same issue as mentioned above here. It really has to do with Spotify and linking with the Google home platform. Almost start to think that it is a deliberate boycott.

All other speakers home work fine, also have a kef lsx and denon receiver. And individually all speakers work fine.

Other apps, Tunein and Pocket cast work seamlessly with the group.

Just. Not. With. Spotify. Why?

- rebooted the speakers

- renamed the speakers

- reset the wifi

- cleared cache

Fix it, it is not working

Hey everyone,

We've moved your comments to this thread as we'd like to start a new investigation and report this issue to our tech team.

To do this, we'd need the following info (in case you haven't provided it already):

  • The model(s) of the affected speaker(s).
  • The model, OS version and Spotify version of the devices you're trying to connect from (if this happens only with particular ones).
  • A detailed description of the issue along with a few screenshots or a short video of how things look on your end.
  • Are you having trouble with speaker groups or individual devices only (or both)?
  • A list of the troubleshooting steps you've done so far.

We appreciate your help in this matter and we look forward to your replies!

A simple Chromecast Audio here, and a Beolab A9 mk1 which doesn’t work at all (wi-fi only) with Spotify (Airplay works though).

I forgot to say, computer is up-to-date (Mac OS 15.1.1) and so is Spotify. Music stops randomly (although the green bar is still here) and I have to restart Spotify to regain access to my music.

Hey @chartz2,

Thanks for the info you've provided!

Can you check what Spotify version you're running on your computer and send it to us? You can follow the steps here. Does this issue only occur in the desktop app or have you tried using the mobile app as well? If it's affected, then it'd be great if you can send us the make and model of your mobile device, as well as your current Spotify mobile app version.

As @MihailY mentioned already, we'd also appreciate it if you can make a video showing the issue and attach it to your next response, so that we can have a closer look. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Hi,

Spotify is1.2.51.345.gcc39d911

Mac OS 15.1.1

The problem is with the desktop app. No problem with CarPlay of course.

I don’t use Google devices with my iPhone.

However, using the iPhone with the A9 kind of works, but connection with Spotify is always lost after a few minutes.
