My Question or Issue
I listen to my saved playlists with smart shuffle on.
When listening to saved playlist then switching to another Bluetooth device or the phone speaker, the same line up of songs I have just listened to start playing in the reverse order.
How do I stop that so I can continue listening to songs I haven't just been listening to.

Does the reversed order also appear in the queue and, if yes, could you send us some screenshots of how things look like on your end? We'd also like to know if this only happens with Smart Shuffle on and what the sorting order of your playlist is.
This aside though, to start with some troubleshooting here - we can check if removing the cached data on the affected device would make a difference 🙂

Hi, reporting the same issue. Smart shuffle not required to reproduce for me. I sort playlists by date added, most recent first.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect to a Bluetooth device. In my case a vehicle.
2. Play music by clicking on a song in the sorted playlist. The playlist plays in the expected order and displays correctly according to the sorting.
3. Disconnect from the Bluetooth device by moving out of range or shutting off the Bluetooth device.
4. Reconnect the Bluetooth device.
5. The next song that Spotify plays after resuming will be the previous song in the play order (most recent in history). Play order continues retracing steps.
In this bug, the playlist remains visually sorted correctly, but after reconnecting to the Bluetooth device, but Spotify will play the previous song (and continue like so).

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and for letting us know about this issue on your end.
We did some extensive testing on our end but were unable to reproduce this, can you reliably reproduce this issue when testing with another device? For example connecting to a Bluetooth speaker and not your vehicle, or connecting to your vehicle through another phone?
Also does this happen when using Android Auto exclusively or does it happen if you connect via regular Bluetooth as well? As the previous user has mentioned, for them it only happens via Android Auto.
We have previously suggested clearing cached storage as a way to solve this, can you let us know if that worked for you?

Hi, I finally got around to doing some more testing here. As far as I can tell, this only happens when connecting to my 2009 Volkswagen.
Infotainment system reports as:
Part Number: 3C0035270
VW software version: 0212
System hardware version: H12
Audio is connected as audio-only, SBC codec. The system does not support song data or remote control functions.
The effect appears to occur only on connection if a playlist was loaded into queue, but paused, and which does not auto-resume upon connection. Connecting to other devices such as modern earbuds or a speaker (both of which have text and controls) does not appear to trigger the bug.
Other info that could be relevant is that the connection to the VW system sometimes fails on first connect attempt and you need to wait 60 seconds or so before the car will accept a connection. It just appears that when the queue is loaded upon device connection, one path ends up calling .reverse() on the array. It would be worth examining if Spotify has some alternative logic for legacy Bluetooth connections that lead to this somewhat rare (in 2024) corner case. 🙂

Your report has been noted, however, we can't confirm when it will be addressed. In the meantime, we'd recommend changing your phone's Bluetooth AVRCP version to see if that makes a difference. A quick web search should give you the steps on how to do this on your particular device.

My Issue
When I start playing a playlist while using Android Auto, the songs play in reverse order. Instead of moving to the next song, it goes to the previous one. Even when I press the "play next song" button, the situation remains the same. However, this issue does not occur when I play a playlist directly from my phone.

I have the same issue. The only thing to fix it is going to a different playlist and start reproducing. Then I can go back to the playlist I was listening at first and the reproduction order is fixed. But it is annoying to do this every time in the car.

When connected to a Bluetooth device the buttons for "next song" and "previous" song are essentially reversed.
Hi, just to add to this topic I’m having the same issue on my Apple iPhone 16 pro max and my partner on her Samsung s23 ultra. Connecting to normal Bluetooth inside a Mazda cx3 reverses the order that our playlist plays. We can only stop it by selecting a new song within that playlist which basically refreshes the order to the correct order.
Same issue. This is super annoying.

Same issue. Latest version of Spotify on my up-to-date Pixel 8. I have this problem if I shuffle my liked songs on my Pixel, and then the next day play via Spotify Web in my office. Then again when I go to my car.
I have been experiencing this issue for months and it is very frustrating.
Edit:
1. Android Auto plays via Bluetooth
2. When I listen at home, which is what I was referring to when I said my Pixel 8, I actually cast my music to my Google Nest speakers. The Nest devices and their apps are fully up-to-date.
3. In my office, I *had* been playing to a speaker via aux cord. Just yesterday I changed my setup and now use Bluetooth. This did not improve the issue.
Since the issue began many months ago, I have rebooted my phone, computer, car, and Nest devices many times (not for this issue, just in general).
I have not taken any troubleshooting steps, though I'm all ears if you have any recommendations. I won't go through pointless & laborious tasks like reinstalling the apps on each of my devices, since this happens cross-platform. I would not be able to screen-record the issue as it occurs across devices, but it seems to me like everyone here described the issue in detail.
