Spotify Akamai CDN buffering

Solved!

Spotify Akamai CDN buffering

In South Africa, Akamai is routing audio-ak-spotify-com.akamaized.net strangely, causing constant buffering on partial downloads. For example, local server 197.80.130.136 causes issues, but routed to international server 92.123.140.88 works better. It seems to swap between these at random.

DNS 8.8.8.8 routes to 197.80.131.162 (mweb.co.za) when using any ISP (incl. non-mweb) and causes massive buffering.

This has been solved on Cool Ideas ISP for the past few weeks.

I recommend reaching out to your ISPs to contact Akamai. Also make sure you are using your ISP's provided DNS server in your router settings.

You think this could be due to the undersea cable break we had a few weeks ago?

I've been basically unable to listen to any music that wasn't downloaded.

Podcasts work just fine though.

I'm also still having issues with it, gauteng

I also assumed it was cable breakage due to timing, but as cables are supposedly fixed now, I made a thread on my ISPs MyBroadband sub-forum and apparently, it's rubbish CDN servers: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/spotify-regularly-pausing.1258298/post-31917706

@spotify, as you're Akamai's customer, please put pressure on them from your side for them to get to the bottom of this problem. It's making Spotify terrible to use here.

The issue seems to be most prominent around the 17:00 mark.
I don't think this is an issue with akamai itself,I think it's an issue at mweb, wouldn't be surprised to be honest, not sure which sensible business would use mweb for hosting.

Same issues for me., all times of thr day

Still not fixed, happens all the time during the day and makes streaming impossible. Might cancel Spotify and move my playlists to YouTube music if this continues.

I've been experiencing the same issue across multiple devices recently too. It makes Spotify almost unusable and has me considering cancelling my account.

Oh wow I'm actually with cool ideas and now that i think about it, it has been better lately!

If you're in control of your router you could put a static DNS entry.

I did it on my mikrotik and it seems to be working so far.
