Spotify keeps playing random songs

Spotify keeps playing random songs

I've already tried logging out everywhere and changing my password.

At first I thought it was just changing songs while I was listening to content but I've had it happen a few time today where it will just start playing while I have it paused (literally just did this as I was typing this sentence).

I first noticed it on my phone a few days ago and now it's doing it on my desktop as well. And it's always this weird EMD playlist.

This started happening to me today as well. I've done the 'log out everywhere' thing and reset my password. Every minute, no matter what I do, it just starts playing random songs.

Hi,

I had this problem and trawled the community boards and tried every solution - none worked, however I think after many painful hours i have the fix...which works for me at least!

Go to your account / apps and disable everything - my player started working instantly.

I suspect it was a pretty popular 'how basic is my playlist' or Sonos which created the bug...anyway good luck!

HELP! I've tried everything that has been suggested in this thread but there is still music that is not my own playing in my account.

What should I do?

Hi there @22edzvpr7bifijdqss4,

Thank you for your reply in this thread. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing this.

If you followed all of the steps that is mentioned in this article without any improvements we suggest that you contact out customer support.

In the meantime you can try a clean reinstall of the app as this will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

You can also try to remove all lines from your host file if this occurs on your computer by following the steps bellow.

For Windows:

  1. Open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
  2. go to File - Open and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open
  4. When the file is open, you will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like 0.0.0.0 website.com127.0.0.1 website2.com
  5. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address. Examples may look like: 0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com0.0.0.0
  6. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  7. Save your changes and restart Spotify

For Mac:

  1. Open Finder and, in Finder’s menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder. In the box, type the following location: /private/etc/hosts and press return
  2. A new Finder window will open and your Mac’s hosts file will be selected. Click and drag it out of the Finder window and drop it on your desktop
  3. To open it, simply double-click and it will display the file’s contents in TextEdit
  4. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address
  5. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  6. Save your changes and restart Spotify

Let us know how it goes 🙂

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I’ve had this happen since like 3 weeks

all of sudden it plays stupid Christian music, so stupid annoying..!!

can’t make it stop doing that

driving me crazy..!!

Hey @RcRebeL,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

In some cases, the track change could be related to some corrupt cache stored on your device. For that, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app.

However, if the track that starts playing is unknown and is not in your library, it could be a security breach. First, make sure to secure your account using this article. If after securing your account the issue is still persistent, we'd recommend contacting our Customer Support so they can check your individual account and help you further.

If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

Hi there @Cole26,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Can you let us know if this is happening with other playlists as well or only this Naruto themed playlist? If it's the only one - send us a link to the playlist so we can check it on our end.

Cheers.
