My Question or Issue

With today's launch in India, I have taken a premium subscription to play Spotify Connect via my Sonos speakers. While the speakers are seen when available devices is clicked in the Spotify app on the phone, connection to them does not happen after clicking on any of them, and music continues to play through the phone.

Where does the action to enable this play rest? Spotify or Sonos? If Spotify, when will this get done?

Hi Guido,

The problem is that Spotify at this time isn't seen as a music service in the Sonos app in India, so I can't select it for account linking.

I have been in touch with Spotify and Sonos Support, because I guess a solution will need both to work at it. Sonos says that for using Spotify Connect, account linking is not needed, but something is, that they promise to work on.

Spotify Support also says that something needs to be done by them. Hopefully, this does not fall in the crack between two partners, and I get to use Spotify before my free trial expires in a month.

Spotify support is being very bureaucratic in telling me to post the implemenation of this feature in the ideas board here.

My reply to them, via email:

"I do not see how doing something in India that is done already in the rest of the Spotify world is an "Idea".

In any case, you should be telling about this missing feature yourself to your developers if Spotify is serious about the Indian market, and not wait for me to post this in ideas.

For now, I will cancel my premium subscription before the trial period ends if this has not been implemented by then because I can just as well use my existing Apple Music subscription; I cannot cast that, but it at least plays directly from the Sonos app. My only interest in Spotify is if it can do something that Apple Music does not - cast to Sonos speakers from the native app on the phone instead of through the Sonos controller app."
