Unable to link accounts on PS3

I know I'll just get referred to Sony who'll refer me back to Spotify, but here goes nothing...

I'm Premium member for a long time since I no longer reside in my country of origin and thus have a need for the travel access. Everything works marvelously on my Mac and WP, so no complaints. When I heard that Spotify is coming to PS3 I was happy.

Now when I finally got it, and after long wait it actually started to work without error messages on startup, I get to log in to my account and be told that I need to link my accounts. No big deal, I think. Except I only get an error message stating that my country doesn't support linking accounts. I'd go and assume that it's because my physical location (and thus my IP) don't match my Spotify information. But that's the whole darn reason I'm paying for the service so it doesn't have to!

I know nothing will be done about this now, or in the near future, but I'd just like to know should I even expect this to be corrected? And why do I even need to link the accounts? Why just logging in is not enough?
