Unable to stream to Amazon Echo Spot

Unable to stream to Amazon Echo Spot

TLDR: New Amazon Echo Spot does not link to Spotify even though other Amazon Echo devices in home are connected and work fine.

I ordered an Amazon Echo Spot a few weeks ago. This device is replacing an Echo Dot.  I also have an Amazon Echo 2nd Generation in my kitchen.

When I ask the Echo Spot to "Play Spotify", the device will say that I need to link the device. I open up the Amazon Alexa app through my iPhone and click on the "Link your Account Now" to which I will select "Spotify" and link the device which already appears with my credentials. At this screen, I have tried unlinking and re-linking my Spotify account and the Amazon Alexa app will say Spotify connected successfully. However, I am unable to play Spotify through the Echo Spot device.

I've also tried signing on to my Spotify account and revoking access to the  Alexa App. That doesn't seem to work either. Mind you that my Amazon Echo, 2nd Generation device works fine and I can stop and resume playback.

Another odd thing is that I am able to play music from the executable "Spotify" application on my Windows Desktop through my Amazon Echo Spot. In other words, I can use the Amazon Echo Spot as an external speaker for Spotify, but Alexa does not seem authorized to issue commands or control playback to my Spotify Account.

Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated!

Did you ever get an answer or fix this problem? I’m having the same thing happen.

Yes, I did manage to fix this problem through the help of Amazon and if push comes to shove, I'd highly recommend submitting a request via the Amazon Alexa app and hopefully you'll be able to speak to someone at Amazon to determine the root cause and get things straightened out.

The problem was not with Spotify but the Amazon Alexa App confusingly had me signed in under a different Amazon profile than the one my Spotify account was linked.

To (hopefully) clarify, I set up Amazon Echo devices for my parents and in order to do that, I had to use their Amazon credentials on my Amazon Alexa App in order to register their Echo. Somewhere along the process, my Spotify account and the two Amazon accounts that I had on my Amazon Alexa app became intertwined. IMO, the Amazon Alexa app is garbage and poorly designed which led to this problem.  If its any conciliation, I think we managed to find and solve the problem in under 5 minutes.

I'm not sure if this solves your problem but if you have multiple Echo devices under one household within the Amazon Alexa app, then the problem is with your profile configuration. The customer support at Amazon should be able to troubleshoot with you to solve it.

Good luck!
