Visually Impaired

Visually Impaired

Hi Folks

I do some charity work for the elderly and one of my friends is legally blind. He loves podcasts but finds using Alexa very frustrating in trying to access podcasts. As he can't see the Spotify content, he does not know what is specifically on Spotify.

My proposed solution was to set up a playlist for him so that he could then ask Alexa to "play Joe's (his name! playlist"). I would then update the list each week.

Here's my problem - Alexa does not seem to recognize what you are asking for when he state the above command.

Has anyone come across this issue or have an alternative solution?

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi @Hynes48,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We're sorry to hear about the issue you experienced with the Spotify app and Alexa. Accessibility has always been a top priority here at Spotify and we're always looking for ways to improve. That being said, we appreciate you taking the time to reach out and share your experience on this with us. We've made the right team aware of this issue.

While our team looks into things further backstage, we'd be more than happy to answer any additional questions you may have about the app.

We're standing by.

I'm a little late to this party, but I think increased accessibility for visually impaired would be fantastic. A way for someone who is partially or completely visually impaired to access, organize, and play the podcasts and audio books would give them a lot of entertainment independence. I know that sometimes this is reliant on Google Assistant or other voice-command software, but any way to make it easier to set up would be greatly appreciated.
