Web player - poor sound quality since 2020-10-20

Web player - poor sound quality since 2020-10-20

Hi,

Web player on Windows 10, Chrome 86.0.4240.75 and Firefox 68.4.2esr

I'm using the family plan for over a year. All of a sudden, the sound quality in Web Player dropped to some 64kb/s few days ago. Very much noticeable and completely unusuable. I can see the web browser is downloading at that rate in the Resource Monitor.

Was there that an intentional policy change from Spotify or is there perhaps an issue on my end?

Thanks,

Daniel

Hi there @DA102,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Sorry for the delayed response, we've just come across this thread.

There hasn't been any announced decrease in streaming quality for the Web player.

Could you try out running it through an incognito window or a different browser and see if you experience the same results?

It's also worth restarting your router.

If that doesn't change anything could you try a different network. You can create a mobile hotspot from your phone if your data plan allows it, to try this out.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi,

turns out the sound card driver got reset for some reason, possibly an update. That turned off Dobly setting. I just turned it back on and the sound is fine again.

Thanks

I fixed my problem with it. So if you are using chrome web browser, the default is to "use hardware acceleration when available" and when I turned this feature OFF in Chrome. Chrome > settings> System> use hardware acceleration when available > OFF.
