Why can't I apply a gift card to a premium account.?It is a form of payment

I filled out a survey and was given the option to choose a $30 gift card from various places. I didn't like most of them so I chose one for Spotify, turns out it cannot be applied to a premium account which is ludicrous. What is the point of a gift card if it can't be used towards my account. It looks like I'd have to cancel my membership, which my daughter is on, switch to an individual plan, apply gift card then go back?? But gift cards are applicable for premiums plans? So I'm out 30$ What an inconvenience. I work for a major retailer and am tempted to put a disclaimer next to the Spotify gift cards saying not valid for premium accounts. What a joke. Never will I ever pick a Spotify gift

Unfortunately, you can’t apply a gift card on discounted plans like Premium Student, Premium Family, Premium Duo, or trial offers. They can only be redeemed when you're either on the Free plan or Premium Individual.
