My Question or Issue

I have somehow connected Spotify on my phone to Spotify on my W11 laptop.

 I can now only play Spotify on one device when using either device, I cannot seem to disconnect them. Many articles on the web do not appear to be up to date. So any help to disconnect the two permanently would be appreciated. Please note that I am an absolutely total newbie to this.

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

 

What you mentioned seems to be expected, so let us add some insights. Keep in mind that, even if you can open your account on as many devices as you want, you can only listen to content on one at a time.

 

When you're listening to music/podcasts on your mobile device and then open the app on your computer, it’s expected not to listen to the content on the computer, since the playback started on the mobile device in the first place. The computer then acts as a controller, but the playback will come from the mobile device. This is possible due to the Connect feature. With Spotify Connect, you can use one device to remotely control listening on another. You can read more about this feature here.

 

Now, if you'd like to change where the playback is coming from, you can select this icon to open the list of devices on which you open your account:

Then, select This Computer.

 

It's important to keep in mind as well that this is not something you can deactivate. By default, you can only listen to content on one device at a time and when opening the app on a second device, the Connect feature starts working. This is the way the app works when you open your account on more than one device at a time.

I have just re-read the article in the context of what you have posted and understand better what is going on. Since you mentioned that this cannot be deactivated, I am ok with this. Thank you for clearing this up and I hope others will learn this also.

When using Spotify, you can only listen on one device at a time, per account. This is by design.

Hello.

 

In the article, I can see no section about deleting connections. So on my Spotify on the web, I use "Forget device" This seemed to break the connection and log me out of my Android Spotify app. When I log back into the Android Spotify app and try to play something it plays on my phone but the Spotify web app, says it is connected to my phone.

 

Obviously, I have not got it right. Can you help me a little further, please?

Thanks for posting your questions on the Community!

Keep in mind that if your devices are connected to the same network, you will probably see all device that you're using Spotify on when opening the app. This way, you can use one of your devices as a remote control, while listening to music on another device. This is part of the Connect feature and can therefore not be switched off.

What you can try, should you have any issues using Connect, is to log out and log back in again on each device. This action should resync your account info.

Hello and thank you for the advice.

I ensured i was logged out of Spotify on both my laptops then i logged out on my android.

Then:

I logged into spotify on just m y Windows 11 laptop

Looged into spotify on my android and plauyed a new podcast, whihc played fine on my android.

I then selected a different podcast on my laptop which played on my android I'm afraid.

 

Any other Ideas would be welcome.
