spotify app stopped working, month later the web player stopped too!

Spotify app stopped working 3 months ago (Windows 7) but web player still worked...now this will not work either. I have uninstalled and reinstalled in safe mode: in safe mode I get a normal-looking screen with all my usual details but sound is off (tried to troubleshoot this, just got (maybe not actual words) the sound cannot be turned on. Told to open the Windows security Centre: got message that the Security Cenre could not be opened (no error code)...anyway once I restarted I just got a black screen for Spotify (no error message).

  The web player also will not work. I have also tried system restore: no joy.
