there's a new album out today. I can see it but I ca't play the songs.

If the album is coming out today, it might be scheduled for official release on Spotify at a later hour. This is all dependent on the artist or the rights holders, they're the ones who set release times for new content. 

Note that the album might come out a couple of days later in some countries and regions due to licensing.
