Family plan
Multiple accounts: me, wife, kid1, kid2, kid3, kid4
2 echo dots
I am able to play my Spotify music independently from my wife, kid3 and kid4 on each of our iPhones.
We recently got 2 echo dots for kid1 and kid2. I setup each echo dot with a new Spotify account (kid1/kid2) in the premium family plan as well separate profiles under Alexa. When one of the kids asks Alexa to play music on Spotify, we get the message: "Now playing X on kid1's Spotify" but when the second child tries to do the same thing on the other echo dot (in a completely different room so as not to be heard from the first), they will get the appropriate "now playing X on kid2's Spotify" but the original dot will stop playing.
I've verified that while doing the above, my iPhone Spotify is unaffected and will continue playing its Spotify so I've at least isolated the echo dot issue to them.
So - is this a Spotify issue? How should I proceed if so?

Hey @shadowryder,
Thanks for reaching out!
Each Spotify account can only be linked to one Amazon account. There is, however, a workaround to circumvent this 🙂
Creating an Amazon Household will allow you to have multiple profiles in the same account. You can link your Spotify accounts to the Household profile and use any smart speaker you want, even if someone else is using another one in the house at the same time.

I'm going to mark this as the solution for Spotify even though I can not get it to work. I think the issue is with Amazon at this point.
Hello Vasil. With all due respect, this issue has not been resolved. I have a Spotify family plan too and and am having the same exact issues as @shadowryder. I already had an Amazon Household account established, was able to link my Spotify family plan, and was even able to get individual Amazon devices to distinguish which Spotify profile it was playing from. The only problem is that even though the Amazon Show in my son, Max's room says that it's playing Green Day from Max's spotify, it is in fact still actually playing from my profile (the main spotify account holder). The same goes for the Echo device in my other son's room. It says it's playing from Julian's spotify, but is actually playing from mine. I called Amazon and they tried to problem solve it on their end, but ultimately said that this a spotify issue. They said that if after speaking with Spotify I have new info that would inform how they can help, then they will do whatever Spotify recommends on their end. So any suggestions? Are you guys working on your end to resolve this issue?
Hey @geewonder,
Thanks for the explanation.
Have you set up the Amazon household with individual user accounts which are linked to the respective Spotify account? That way every account will have access to the Amazon household and be able to input commands.
You can add accounts to the household through the Alexa app go into music & more - settings and create individual user accounts for every family member, then link those to their own Spotify accounts.
As a workaround, you can also use the voice command "Alexa, connect Spotify", then open the app on the phone with the account logged in you want to play from - this should let you to keep the playback separate.
Hope this helped out, the Community is always here if you need more help.
Hey Yordan. Our Amazon Household is set up with an adult profile for my wife and child profiles for each of my kids. Do you think the problem is that their accounts are set up as child profiles?
I don't see anywhere in the settings of "music and more" a place to create individual user accounts (see the attached screen grab)
Hey @geewonder,
Thanks for the response!
Looking at the situation, your guess may very well be correct, but we can't know this for sure as we can't test it from here.
For any specifics regarding the Amazon Household, it would be best to check with Amazon directly 🙂

Hello Vasil, This still doesn't work. I have two amazon kids echo dot accounts and two Spotify kids accounts. However, when using the Amazon Echo App it doesn't allow me to link the kids accounts it only allows me to link the parent account for the premium Spotify. How can I link the separate kids accounts to the premium spotify accounts. Without this resolution, I believe I will have to get rid of spotify and switch to amazon music.
Hi, amazon household does not resolve this issue.
I've taken it one step further yet i am unable to play Spotify on 2 echos using my husband's account on one device and my account on the other.
I have done the following:
I can't see how this is not a Spotify issue at this point, although it doesn't seem to have the same problem on android phones.
Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the delay!
If the speakers have been set up correctly and linked to separate accounts, they shouldn't get mixed up and affect the playback, so can you let us know how you're using them to play Spotify - through voice commands or by selecting them manually from Spotify Connect? Both speakers should be visible in Spotify Connect due to them being on the same Wi-Fi network, so if you're using voice commands, try selecting the speaker in the app instead to see if that works.
You can also try re-linking the Spotify accounts to the speakers, as well as restarting the Echo devices - unplug, wait 30 seconds, and plug back in. If restarting doesn't fix the situation, try reseting the devices to their default settings, as that fixes most issues. You can find the steps here according to your Echo device's version.
Keep us posted.
