Family Plan is under someone else's name

Family Plan is under someone else's name

For some reason when I invite someone to my family plan, it lists a different name other than mine as the owner. It's listing my ex-girlfriend -- the first person I ever invited to MY family plan. Now I have a different girlfriend, who got an invite that said she was joining my ex-girlfriend's plan. Very frustrating, as you can imagine.

I think it's doing this because way back when I added my ex, it asked for a name. I assumed it was asking for HER name (the invitee), but from looking around on the Help section, it looks like it was actually asking for MY name -- the owner of the family plan. But apparently the prompt isn't specific, so other users have made the same mistake.

I even demoted my plan from Family to Premium then back to Family hoping this would resolve the issue, but it didn't.

Please help!

Hey there @user-removed,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community!

The Premium for Family invite email includes the name provided when the plan was initially set up. Keep in mind that this is only visible in the invites sent and it shouldn't affect how the plan works.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to change the address registered on an existing Premium for Family plan.

If you move, or enter the wrong details, you need to create a new account (make sure you cancel the plan on your old account beforehand, and sign out everywhere) and subscribe to Premium for Family on that new account.

On another note, it seems updating your plan's details is something other Spotify users would like to see. We'd suggest heading here and adding your +VOTE

Also, if you'd like more information on how the Ideas Exchange works, make sure to head here.

Let us know if that helps!

So I need to completely delete my entire old account? I'll have to lose my username/data and then start an entirely new account with a new username?

Hey @user-removed.

Thanks for getting back to us.

It's true that you'll have to choose a new username. But no worries, if you make sure your music collection is stored in public playlists, you can visit your old account with your new account and grab all your songs from there. You’ll be able to visit your old account by putting the following string in the search bar:  spotify:user:username

Don't forget to replace username with your own username. Oh and by the way, If you want to use the same email address for your new account, you'll have to close your old account. You'll have 7 days to visit your old account and find your music there. You’ll also need to cancel your subscription on your old account, in case you have a Premium account.

We hope you'd like to try this! It's a lot quicker than it might seem. Let us know if you have further questions.

Have a nice day.

I have the exact same problem: when I send an invite to my recently re-recreated family account, the name that appears is the name of my sister, with who I don't live any more, and the invite won't work for my wife and son.

Do I have some way to even see what is the address associated with my account?

I'm angry there is no simple solution for this. I don't undertand how a company with such great tech team as Spotify can ask us to recreate an account for such a simple issue as changing one's address, this is just stupid... People move, families change, it should be easy to account for this!
