Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out.
If you listened to a playlist and then came back after a while to that same playlist, the playback should be resumed from the same song you last listened to. However, this doesn't work if you played any other content outside of that playlist. Let's say you were listening to a playlist and then played your Liked songs. When you go back to the original playlist, there's no option to resume the playback. It only works if you don't play any other content.
Now, it seems other users feel the same way, and an idea to add the feature has already been suggested here and here - feel free to add your vote to them!

This user has a valid point. I'm also looking for this feature or option - Everytime I go back to a playlist in my library it plays the first song which I've probably heard 59 times without hearing songs 25 or so on or the last song on that playlist for that matter. I feel it's a simple feature to add.
Both links lead to "Access Denied" archived ideas. Does that mean they've been implemented (it doesn't look like it has) or Spotify decided they're not doing it?
Indeed both links lead to "Access Denied" areas. I also would like the feature. When I switch from the playlist I'm listening, to a audio book or a podcast the position in the playlist is gone. It's a nightmare. How easy can It be to implement this feature. It is implemented for e-books, why not for normal playlists? Make it an optional feature so that people who don't want to use it can leave it unchecked and users who do want to use can check it.
What's even more stupider is this: in my playlist "My Music" I have "Know Your Enemy" by Green Day. While it's playing, the info about the album art says "My Music", and if I click on "My Music", it takes me to the song's location in my playlist. If I play something else, go to Queue > Recently played, and start playing "Know Your Enemy", the album art info now shows "Know Your Enemy" instead of "My Music", and clicking on "Know Your Enemy" takes me to the song's location in the album.
Spotify seems pathologically incapable of tracking the last played song in a playlist. They seem to have gone out of their way to prevent it!
I literally have a post-it on my desk that I periodically update with the last number in my playlist that was played because Spotify can't / won't.
This is especially important because I had to use an online tool to randomly sort my playlist (because Spotify's shuffle function *sucks*) and sort by Custom order, so I need to keep track of where in my "random" shuffle I am.
I use Spotify mostly on my phone so I take screenshots where I'm in my list but is quite hard to find the correct position afterwards.
