Invited members of family, now what?!! No instructions after family received invite!

So I bought a premium family membership, then I invited my son. We got a code number and a link. The link takes me to a Subscription and Payment page saying my payment will be renewed in two weeks. Now I bought the family plan two months ago, why am I being sent to this stupid page when what I want to do is simply open my son's account so he can use it? There don't seem to be any other options. Why is this so f'ing hard and why isn't there an explanation of how to do this, I'm a technician, I'm ready to pull the plug and go to Apple.
