Merging a free account to family account

Merging a free account to family account

Hello,

i have read the Spotify FAQ’s, I have looked through this blog’s questions and answers as well trying to find my particular situation, I have tried some of other people’s posts suggestions, and still haven’t been able to solve my problem. I want to thank anyone in advance who takes the time to answer and try to help me out, I appreciate it and I hope I can pay forward the help in the near future as I go from a newbit Spotify user to a well seasoned Spotify user who can help others like myself just starting out.

Okay, so my husband has had a Spotify account for nearly four years. I had wanted one for a while but don’t plan to use it as often as my husband. I couldn’t justify us paying another $10 a month for a total of $20 for my husband and myself. He uses it $10 worth but I knew I wouldn’t. I have had a free account for a few months because I wanted to see how much I would use it if I had it and as I have seen my husband use his premium and hear the awesome features it has, I quickly wanted to upgrade. I was reading a lot of different things about it and researching and saw the family plan.blong story short we upgraded and he sent me an invite to my email. I opened the email and clicked  accept invitation. I signed into my account and clicked premium because I thought it would allow me to enter the code as the instructions said something about redeeming a token in the FAQ’s on Spotify.com regarding accepting an invitation if you already have a free or premium account. When I clicked upgrade premium it said I now have started my free 7 day trial. I don’t want to do that. I want to accept my husbands invitation to the family plan. Any ideas on how to do that from where I’m at right now? Thank you!

Hello @Singin4myJC,

Did you enter any of your credit card information when accepting your Spotify family invitation? When you join Family Premium with your old account nothing should change. The 7 day free trial could be a promotion that is not needed, but given to you for no reason. As long as you haven't enter your own credit card information then there should be no problem.

Hope this helps. Likes are appreciated.

Thank you so much Riding Star for your helpful knowledge and insight!

I did not enter any credit card number, so that’s a great thing to know and learn!

I am still a bit confused because I thought when I clicked to the accept family invitation  button in the invite email, that immoderatelyy account would show my status as being merged in someway and now having the premium status. It’s okay that didn’t happen that easily or quickly but I just feel lost from the standpoint of I still am unsure how to create my own separate profile/playlists/etc. within our (me and my husbands’) account. I kind of thought my free account playlist would automatically switch over the the family premium account  and my husband and I would both have our separate playlists but be able to access them both because of the oh so creative and super smart idea of a family joint account. Does this make sense? I’m not trying to make this more complicated than it needs to be, I’m just surprised the transition to add my free account to the family plan isn’t a little bit more laid out for those who find themselves in my shoes, being a newbie and not quite sure unsure how to connect to the family plan much less try to navigate  this website. It should be as easy as clicking a bottom to join my free account to the family premium.plan.

The family premium is a cheaper way of having multiple accounts and profiles in Spotify. The use of it only means that you are paying a cheaper bill for multiple premium accounts. It still is your own account and your music and there is not a strong connection between the accounts if you do not want there to be one. The accounts are entirely separate except for the fact they are on one bill.

If you need help setting up anything you can either ask your husband or just pm me.

Hope this helps.
