Charged twice for nothing

Charged twice for nothing

I tried to sign up for a student account today. I got an error that my information could not be verified, but my card was still charged twice! I tried sending a message through your contact form but have received no response. Is there a customer service number I can call?

Hi @Tarrinz. Typically on new subscription Spotify will place a pre-authorization charge on your method of payment before withdrawing the final sum. A pre-auth charge is usually a small charge that is used by companies to ensure that the payment method used has the appropriate amount of funds to complete a transaction, and the charge should drop on its own within a few business days.

When processing a student discount, the system almost always places a pre-auth on your method of payment, even if the subscription fails. Repeated attempts at enrolling will place additional pre-authorization charges. These charges, as I've said, should drop on their own in a few days as no money has actually been taken out of your account.

Also, for future reference, please note that when contacting support it can take anywhere from 24-48 hours to hear back, depending on the volume of tickets they are dealing with.

And lastly, if you’re having trouble getting verified as a student, give this page a quick try. 90% of the time the automatic verification process works without a hitch, but sometimes a more human touch is required. Please do note that this verification method only works for US residents.

Hopefully this clears things up. If you have any additional questions please don't hesitate to let me know. Cheers!
