Is Spotify trying to screw over Dutch students?

Is Spotify trying to screw over Dutch students?

It seems that in the Netherlands, premium (€10 a month) account can be paid in variety of ways, including credit card, paypal, and ideal. However, when one tries to get a student disscount account (€5 a month), the site requires the use of credit card only. Because of this, vast majority of students in the Netherlands end up damaged by Spotify as they are not in possesion of a credit card (visa, master card, or american express), but a debit card (e.g. Maestro issued by ING Bank which can be used for IDEAL).

How can you justify that, as it seems that this mechanism is in place only to prevent students in the Neherlands from getting a discount you offer. Spotify undoubtedly has mechanisms of receiving money via other means.

Also, as an international student from a country that Spotify does not support, I cannot use my home country credit card, so this disparity makes me illegible for the discount.

Is there a way for me to receive the disscount I am entitled, or is it just a way for you to seem like nice guys while screwing students over?

Hey @danskal, welcome to the community!

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Since the student discount was just released in many Spotify available countries, this is the only available payment method at the moment.

But don't worry, we'll gladly let the right folks know you'd like to see multiple payment options.

Let us know if anything else comes up.
