I am trying to sign up for the premium student plan but I cannot complete the verification. The error message "unable to perform requested action" keeps coming up. I have tried several browsers and devices. I have also tried incognito mode.

I’m sorry to hear about this, there is a list of problems that can occurs with the Student Discount.

Sometimes it's the verification process, you can check the Student verification is not working Article. In your case I highly recommend you to contact SheerID.

Sometimes this is the University or the college, check out the article University or college not listed if this is the case.

Please note that student discount expires after 12 months, you can check How to renew student discount if this is the case. Also the Student Discount can be used up to 4 years, after 4 years of 50% you will be not eligible anymore.
