My Question or Issue

Hi people, I hope you can help me answering this:

I'm creating an app using a Python library (Spotipy) to use the Spotify API and I wanna know if I can monetize the app, or releasing it free but getting paid with ads.

And maybe creating a free and premium plan.

Hey there, @Raul30

Thanks for reaching out about monetizing your Spotify API app!

Whether you can monetize depends if your app streams music. If your app streams music (like a player), you generally cannot monetize it through direct payment or ads within the streaming functionality. This is because Spotify typically restricts commercial use for apps that handle music playback.

However, if your app does not stream music (a Non-Streaming SDA), you have limited options for monetization. You could sell the app or charge for access, or include advertising within the app.

It's really important to check the Spotify Developer Policy and Compliance Tips for all the details and to see if your specific app type and monetization ideas are allowed. If you're using something similar to the Web Playback SDK for streaming, commercial use might require Spotify's written approval.

Make sure to review those guidelines carefully!
