Claiming Fido promotion

Claiming Fido promotion

Hey,

I'm currently studying at UW in Canada and I signed up with Fido. Part of the deal was 6 months of Spotify premium, however, it won't let me subscribe using my credit card. When I change the region to reflect my payment method I get automatically redirected elsewhere. Do I really need to get Canadian bank account just to get Spotify?

Hi @Somedud and welcome to the Community! 🙂

Spotify requires that your payment type must match the country you are currently located at in order to put billing info on file.
It appears the reason Fido requires you to put a card on file with Spotify is because once the promo ends it will start charging to Spotify directly. I copied the FAQ from their website below. Hopefully this helps!

FAQ answers for customers who activated their Fido Pulse plans on or after October 25, 2017:

Why does Spotify need my credit card information?

During the activation process you’ll be asked to provide your credit card information. No charges will be billed until the 6 months is up. When your promotional offer has expired, Spotify will charge your payment method $9.99 per month. To cancel your paid subscription, visit Spotify.com.
