I paid for one year up-front. Is there a cost effective way for me to switch to Duo?

I paid for one year up-front. Is there a cost effective way for me to switch to Duo?

In October, I purchased on year of Spotify Premium, as opposed to a subscription. I did this because my wife already had an account and the family plan didn't make sense for us.

I did not realize that "Duo" was being introduced a few months later, otherwise I would've considered a subscription instead, knowing I could cancel and switch to Duo.

Now that I still have a few months left on my one-year purchase, are there any cost-effective options to partially refund and switch to a Duo subscription? Or am I stuck until October?

Thanks.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out to the Community. You can cancel your Spotify Premium, then sign up for the Duo. If you cancel you should be able to get some of your money back from August through October. Note that you have already paid for July. So I suggest you wait until the end of July to Cancel, then switch, sometimes it is more effective than just canceling in the middle of the month then sign up for another plan. Because if you switch now you will be charged twice this Month for Spotify Premium instead of one time this month. Hope this helps.

Hey there @tmr22,

Hope that your keeping well. Just so you are aware Spotify doesn’t partially refund Premium as outlined in the terms and conditions here under section 4.2.

If you were to change to the Duo plan the remainder of your 1 year, will be changed as Elena states below, Duo is here to stay so no rush if you wish to wait until October!

Hey there @tmr22,

Just jumping in to clarify some things.

Keep in mind that Premium Duo can't be prepaid like the individual subscription. You need to enter a recurring payment method. @EthanS1 is right that we don't do partial refunds. However, if you upgrade to Duo the individual Premium time won't be stored for when the subscription ends. Instead it will instantly be converted into Premium Duo and shortened because the price difference.

Hope this helps. Just leave a post if you have further questions 🙂

Have a great day!

Thank you so much!

I just want to clarify your last point:
So let's say hypothetically I had 6 months of my pre-paid one year subscription left. If I were to upgrade today, I could put the value of those 6 months towards my Duo monthly subscription instead?

(Because Duo is more expensive though, this amount would not cover 6 months, but maybe 4 or 5)

Hey @tmr22,

Exactly, that's just how it works. Not only with Duo but with all plans that have a price difference 🙂

Keep us posted if you have any further questions.

Have an awesome day!
