If I cancel Premium through Apple to upgrade to Family plan, will I lose any of my playlists, etc?

If I cancel Premium through Apple to upgrade to Family plan, will I lose any of my playlists, etc?

Plan: Premium - Individual

Country: USA

Device: iPhone 12 Pro, Macbook Pro 2018, old Macbook Pro 15"

(iOS 14.7.1, Catalina 10.15.7 and an older Mac OS hahaha)

My Question or Issue

I learned from this article (https://support.spotify.com/us/article/apple-payments/) that I will need to cancel my individual premium through Apple and let it expire.  I am absolutely addicted to Spotify.  I would lose my sh*t if I lost my playlists, saved music and history.  Yes, I'm obsessed with your product, so THANK YOU.  So I want to be certain that I won't lose anything before canceling through Apple.  Please confirm.

Also, can I re-sign up for Spotify Family right after I cancel my Apple payment method?  I don't care if I double-spend for a couple of days.  I may forget when the account goes back to free and then I may be too busy to deal with it for a while haha.

Thanks in advance and keep on rocking in the free world!

Love,

Hi there @Djtnut

thanks for reaching out !

My suggestion in a case like this would be to create the new account and to follow the steps provided on this Spotify Answer just to be on the safe side.

Let me know if you have further questions 🙂

This sounds like a lot of extra work and doesn't really seem to align with
my question.

My wife and I each have a Spotify account. Mine is premium and hers is a
free account. We both have a fair amount of history in our accounts. I
have built out many playlists and I have also integrated IFTTT applets with
my Spotify account for archiving my discover weekly liked songs into
monthly playlists. I do not want to lose or recreate all of that. My wife
hasn't done as much playlist building, but wants to keep her history too.

I have my Premium account billed through Apple payment method and
understand that I will need to cancel my Premium through Apple before I can
register for a Family Plan through Spotify directly. During that
transition, it's imperative that I keep everything on my account. I think
it seems more straight forward to invite my wife to the Family Plan once my
account is fully transitioned.

I also wondered if I can cancel through Apple and then immediately
re-register for the Family Plan through Spotify directly even if it means
I'll pay for a little overlap time.

Thanks, David

Hey there @Djtnut

Thanks for getting back to us.

Not to worry, changing your subscription will not impact any of your playlists, saved music or history. However, keep in mind that you'll lose your downloaded content for offline listening after your account is reverted to free, as this is a Premium feature, but the saved musical collection remains intact and you can download everything again, once you're back on Premium.

Since you're paying through a partner, you'll need to wait (after Apple cancels the subscription from their end) for the account to revert to free before you can re-subscribe to Premium Family. Remember that you can always see your billing date in your Account Overview page.
