My Question or Issue

When playing a song from a local file on my iPhone, the artwork does not appear, instead showing a grey box with the note icon in the middle. However, on my Mac, where the file was originally transferred, the album artwork appears just fine. I downloaded some albums online, and when transferring them, album art appears both on my Mac and my iPhone. However, on an mp3 file that I put my own custom cover on (on music, get info), the artwork does not appear on my phone. I've tried various different methods of getting the artwork to display, including transporting the file to 'music' on my iPhone, but from there I'm unsure how to transport this to Spotify on my iPhone. Someone also mentioned changing the tags, but I'm unsure how to do this even after installing mp3tag. I know it's not the biggest deal, but it's just confusing how everything else (title, artist, album name) works fine on both devices but the artwork doesn't, and the fact that internet-downloaded album artwork works seemlessly on both but artwork added through 'music' doesn't.

It's possible that the album artwork is not being properly embedded in the MP3 file, or that the file format is not compatible with Spotify's display requirements. Here are some steps you can take to try to fix this issue:

  1. Check the file format: Make sure that the MP3 file is in a compatible format. Spotify supports the following formats for local files: MP3, M4P (unless it contains video), MP4, M4A, and M4B.

  2. Check the file metadata: Ensure that the album artwork is properly embedded in the file metadata. You can use a metadata editor like MP3Tag to add the artwork to the file. Make sure that the artwork is in a compatible format (JPG or PNG) and that it meets Spotify's size and dimension requirements (minimum size of 640 x 640 pixels).

  3. Check the file transfer: If you're transferring the file from your computer to your iPhone manually, make sure that the artwork is properly transferred along with the file. You can try transferring the file using iTunes or another media management software to ensure that the artwork is properly synced.

  4. Check the file permissions: Make sure that the file has proper read and write permissions. You can check this by right-clicking on the file and selecting "Get Info" on your Mac, or by using a file manager app on your iPhone to check the file permissions.

  5. Check your Spotify settings: Make sure that local files are enabled in your Spotify settings and that the folder containing the local files is properly selected.

If none of these steps work, you may want to try re-encoding the file with a different software or converting it to a different file format to see if that resolves the issue.

I'm all ears, and my tail's a-waggin' for updates!
