Can I import my local songs as folders?

Can I import my local songs as folders?

Hello I have around 16gb's of local music on my phone and I'm thinking of switching to Spotify but first I have a few questions:

1. Can my songs be imported with the folder they are in? For example, I have folders like "things I was listening as a kid", "2000s playlist", etc. I need this structure when I import them to Spotify.

2. Does subfolders work when importing? This is not as important since I can easily reorder my folders but, for example I have folders inside of folders like "2000s playlist/pop and rock/linkin park favorites" How will they get uploaded?

3. What will happen to my local songs that doesn't exist on spotify? Will they be uploaded to my account as local files? or not?

Hey there, welcome to the Spotify Community!

You can import your local files using the Spotify app. However, on the mobile app there is no ability to select folders as of now.

Once you enable local files, it will show you all the supported files under the local files playlist.

So to answer your question, yes sub-folders are considered when importing local files. But all the files will appear under the same local files playlist.

You can add them to your playlists but only you'll be able to play those.

To know more about local files, you can read this official support article.

Let me know if you need help with anything else.

Hello, I have further questions:

1. Will my local non-Spotify songs be placed in the correct folders or do I have to do that myself?

2. The help page you provided didn't said anything about the Linux version of Spotify. What is the procedure there?

Hello me again, I have more questions. I added my songs, how do I identify them as Spotify files?

Welp, I just learned that it is impossible. Goodbye, Spotify. Hello piracy, my old friend.

Hey @sane2, it is possible to recognise the imported files in the Spotify app.

You can right click the file and notice that it has way less context menu options than other songs. That is one way.

Another is, when you play local files you might not see lyrics and other meta data for the same. This refers to the items on the Now Playing View like the artist card, credits, lyrics, etc.

Another way is to use the Local Files playlist that is automatically created once you import the files. It's often pinned next to the liked songs. You can search for it as well.

I hope that helps.
