Can't remove songs from playlist

Can't remove songs from playlist

Android Pixel 2, Windows 10 laptop

My Question or Issue

I can't remove songs from a (collaborative) playlist. When I click/touch the three-dot menu next to a listed song, the option to remove it simply is absent. This is both in the Android app, as in the Web Player (on Windows 10, Chrome browser (stable channel)).

Hi there @Protector1,

Thank you for your reply and for the troubleshooting steps you've done so far.

We've checked backstage and it's only possible to remove songs from the Collaborative playlist from the desktop app. Can you confirm if that works for you?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Hi there @Protector1,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Can you let us know if this happens with songs that you've added, someone else added, or both?

Also, could you send us a screenshot of the options that are showing in the Android app?

Lastly, let us know if the playlist was created by you or by someone else.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hello Carlos,

It is the case both for songs added by me and for those added by others. I've attached a screenshot of the options in the Android app.

The playlist was created by someone else.

Cheers,

Louis

Hi @Protector1,

Thank you for keeping in touch!

It's odd that the option is absent from the playlist. We'd like to make sure if this is the only collaborative playlist where you're having this issue, or if it also happens in other collaborative playlists.

Also, can you log in with another account, such as a friend's or a family member's to see if the issue persists? Alternatively, you can create a free account here, just make sure you're logged out of your own account before creating a new one.

Let us know how this goes.

Hi Mafe,

I can confirm that I have this issue with other collaborative playlists as well, e.g. this one: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Hca3GoPyyasEYtXp5PKWm?si=T226QGRgRuGSwnNxvPyPfg&nd=1

I also made a new account, to verify the problem occurs there as well. You can see this in the attached screenshot.

Cheers,

Louis

Hey @Protector1,

Thanks for your reply and additional info.

We can confirm that this behavior of the web player is expected and that currently adding/removing of songs in collaborative playlists should be possible only from your mobile and desktop versions of the Spotify app. Let us know if the option is available for you via the desktop client of the app, and if not please share more screenshots and info about what version number is your current desktop client.

As you mentioned earlier, that you experience this issue on your Android app as well, could we ask you to share with us the exact version and number of that as well, so we can take a closer look and advise you better.

Hope this helps clarify things. Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hey Kiril,

My version of the Android app reports this version number in settings: 8.6.84.1240

Hey @Protector1,

Thanks for the info.

Can you check whether you can remove songs from the Android app?

Cheers.

Hey Alex,

As you can see in the screenshot I attached Monday, the option to remove songs is missing in the Android app as well.

Cheers, Louis

Hey @Protector1,

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to confirm that this is still happening on Android.

Since this is happening on different devices and different accounts for you, would you mind connecting to another network and trying to remove a song from one of the playlists mentioned above?

We tried this on our end with multiple device, but the option to remove songs is always present.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey Alex,

I just disabled wifi on my Android device and verified that it connected to the cellular network, but the problem persists.

Hi Jeremy,

Oh, I see. Well that is a little disappointing. I rarely use Spotify on a desktop.
Anyway, thanks for the assistance!

Cheers, Louis

Hi. A friend of mine is having the same problem as OP, using the Spotify app on an iPhone 11 (iOS 15.1.1); she cannot remove songs from a collaborative playlist.

I, however, CAN delete songs ("Remove from this playlist") on collaborative playlists, that I did and didn't create, on my iPhone 6s (iOS 15.2.1).

It's weird to say you can "only do it from the desktop app" (and yes, I can do it there, too) when I, and I imagine a ton of other people, can delete from the app on our phones. Is it possible that the "solution" is something else?

Hi folks,

Thank you for your replies.

We'd like to start by making a clarification and it's that you should be able to remove songs from collaborative playlists on both desktop and mobile apps. Our apologies if this caused confusion.

@robsloane If your friend hasn't performed any troubleshooting steps, please ask them to perform a clean reinstall and try with a different internet connection.

If the issue persists after this, then we suggest you folks contact Customer Support so they can take a look into your accounts. Here is the link.

Let us know if you have any questions.

The problem remains for me, both on desktop and mobile. The song that I want to delete shortly vanishes and then pops right back in. Also logging out or reinstalling the app doesn’t solve this.

Hey @fvp,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out!

We're testing a new feature where the playlist's owner can grant or remove permission to add / remove songs to collaborators. Once a user has been removed as a collaborator, they would remain as a member and can't change anything on the playlist. Here's how you can do that:

  1. Go to one of the collaborative playlists you've created and tap the profile pictures under the playlist name.
  2. Tap the three dots next to the user's name
  3. Choose Remove from playlist. Now they'll no longer be able to add or remove songs.

Note: Since we're still testing this feature, it may not be available to you just now, but will eventually be rolled out to all users. Just make sure you keep the app up to date.

Hope this info was useful. The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Cheers!

I have tested and can confirm that it do not work. They appear to briefly disappear, but then they just reappear again.

Hey @liftarn

Thanks for getting in touch about this.

Could you let us know if this happens with a collaborative playlist? If so, we'd like to know if you've created it.

If you're the playlist owner, as @Yordan mentioned, you can grant or remove permission to add or remove songs to collaborators. You just need to follow the steps suggested previously. This way you can make sure no one else re-add the songs you've already removed.

In case this is not happening to a collaborative playlist, could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? That way we can avoid any repeating steps.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hello,

I'm having the same problem. I'm iOS app and i'm trying to remove songs from a collaborative playlist I did not create. I am able to successfully delete the songs that I add, but whenever I try to delete songs my peer added, it disappears for a second and the it pops back and stays in the list.
