My Question or Issue

I've managed to, for whatever underlying reasons, end up adding the same identical song to my liked song list.  I seem to gather from the forums that there's something to do with the underlying identifiers changing because albums are being reuploaded (but all I see are posts of people interfacing with 3rd party apps. I am working directly with the Spotify desktop app and/or the spotify mobile app). Having both a mechanism to prevent seeing "liked" songs as unliked in playlists to prevent re-liking the same song, as well as a library deduplication feature would be beneficial. Nothing more frustrating than to be playing library on shuffle and have the literal same song repeat, because it's in the list twice.

Hey @Demosai welcome to the Spotify Community!

I agree that seeing the same content multiple times could be frustrating.

As you already mentioned, sometimes labels release a different version like remastered, deluxe, super deluxe, etc. They often take down an earlier version to replace with the new one which might cause the duplicate issues. I have experienced this myself. But there's not much Spotify can do in this case as it's upto the labels.

You have also mentioned the use of third-party services to get rid of duplicates. I wouldn't recommend that because it gives them access to your account and might be dangerous as they're not official tools from Spotify.

However, for now you can sort your library by alphabetical order and then see the duplicate content easily. Batch select the ones you want to get rid of, and remove from library (playlist, liked songs, etc).

I understand that this isn't an ideal solution but if you have any ideas to suggest, feel free to share that with the ideas board.
