Friend Activity feed playlist behavior

Solved!

Friend Activity feed playlist behavior

Plan: Premium

Country: US

Devices: macOS, iOS, Windows

Based on this thread from last year, it seems a "Public" playlist that hasn't been "added to Profile" should still register as a viewable playlist under the Friend Activity feed (as opposed to showing each song's Album as the "playing location" on the second line).

Has this behavior been changed?

I used a second account to test this functionality. Currently, the name of the playlist only shows up under "Friend Activity" if it is made Public AND added to your profile.

The behavior suggested in the previous thread seems more appropriate, wherein a playlist appears in Friend Activity whether or not it's added to your profile, as long as the playlist has been made public.

Hi there @avtraino,

Thanks for the post and screenshot.

In order for a playlist name to appear it needs to be set both as Public and Add to Profile.

If the playlist is just Public - it won't show up.

Hope this clears things up 🙂

Hey @avtraino,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind sending us the link to one of the playlists you have set public, but it's not visible on your profile? You can send us the link by following the steps in this article.

On another note, it'd help us a lot if you send us a video recording of how it looks in your other account's friend's activity when a song from that playlist is being played. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google drive and make it public, so we can visualize them.

Keep us in the loop!

Here is a playlist that is public but not on my profile:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4OR01uouWZtnjSvcUUEFiM

Here is an image of what it looks like when I'm listening to that playlist:

Friend Activity (playlist not shown)(in which I would expect "💿 Runner" to instead show "🎵 brisk to quite brisk")

The image seems to serve the purpose of the requested video.

Let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

Thanks!

Vito

Ok, thanks for clarifying. That seems backwards to me, so I just wanted to make sure that was the intended behavior.

Hi Alex! I am having the same issue as OP, which I also found that making it Public and Add to Profile makes the playlist visible too.

I have some questions about this, because I am pretty sure I've never had the playlist added to my profile, yet other people could see the playlist name under my name. How come other people can listen to the playlist (whether they are a collaborator or not), and the playlist shows up under their name without them having added it to their profile? Is it because I am the owner? The playlist is set to "Public Playlist", but I have to add it to my profile for others to see it, but other people don't have to do the same thing.

Hi there @darkbound

Thanks for the post.

If you're the creator of a playlist, you'll be able to see when other users are playing the playlist. This goes for Collaborators and non-Collaborators.

Cheers.
