For the love of god stop arbitrarily changing everything!
I have used Spotify religiously for over ten years. First as a kid just using the free version and as a premium user since 2017. The UI changes in random, arbitrary ways at random intervals and it is my only hangup on what I consider to be my most essential subscription.
What is currently driving me insane is how the “like” function was upended overnight and was replaced with an “add to playlist” function. You’ve always been free to add anything to a playlist, I personally like to add some songs to playlists that I don’t necessarily have in my liked and like songs that I currently have in some playlist or other already. I used to be able to like or unlike any song independent of its status of being on my playlists at any time by just sliding it or tapping the button. Now I have to tap the three dots and then hit add to playlist and then hit liked songs. I used to be able to add entire albums to my liked songs at one time. Now I have to go through this stupid pedantic ordeal to like every individual song.
I understand the rationale, most of these changes have some dedicated rationale. This one seems to be pushing users to be able to add things to their library and downloads and sort through them more easily than just having everything go to liked—a large difficult to sort through cache full of everything. I can see why the change was made. I just wish that more priority was put on making the transition between different UI versions less abrasive and still familiar to people who have been using the platform for a long time and liked the way it used to work. It’s not that the changes are all bad or that I want to stop changing things altogether, just stop changing it overnight and arbitrarily and making the new UI so unfamiliar from the old UI. The liked songs system was FINE and it shouldn’t take me six more taps than it used to for the same result.
I am not going to stop using Spotify or anything and I don’t want to just demand that lol change grind to a halt but quit throwing the baby out with the bathwater and quit pushing DVORAK-keyboard-esque updates onto my music organization.
