My Question or Issue

In short: My Spotify home screen right at the top consistently shows/recommends me funeral music playlists. It's a useless recommendation, increasingly annoying, and it's unsettling to be reminded of losing someone every time I open the app.

More details: A family member died nearly three months ago, we only had one day to make arrangements for the funeral and that's the only time I ever listened to these playlists. They're not saved to my library, no lists followed or songs liked. I'm a long time Spotify user, and I use the app daily. I listen to a variety of different genres that you wouldn't find in playlist for a funeral, and really see very little overlap.

Things I've tried

- Cleared cache, reinstalled the app.

- Cleared all liked songs from my account, checked my library for any related content.

- Clicked "Exclude From Taste Profile" for any list that pops up.

- Waited close to three months. I figured that with daily listening, recommendations would self-correct.

- Contacted customer support, they suggested I "give it a few more days"..., and/or come here.

- Currently, I'm playing music that has no business being in a funeral playlist - on mute - for a few hours a day in addition to my regular usage to see if that does anything. This is obviously completely mad, but I'm fresh out of sane ideas.

What I'm looking for: Short of just deleting an account with seven years worth of playlists/albums/folders, I can't think of a solution.

I was hoping someone might be able to suggest something else I could try. I'm open to silly suggestions as well.

Hey @mandyvdn,

Thanks for coming to the Community.

Can you please check the Music feed at the top of your Spotify Home screen for any inappropriate recommendations? If you see one, simply tap on the three dots menu, then select Not interested.

By doing this, it should stop recommending similar content in the future.

In addition to that, you can also add your vote to the Customize Start Screen idea.

Let me know how it goes. 🙂

Hi Maxim,

Thank you for your help. I'm not quite seeing any changes yet, but I'll try to keep going through the recommendations as new ones pop up. I wasn't aware of the feature and it's something I hadn't tried yet!

I also voted for the "Customize Start Screen idea" like you suggested, seems like a really good idea. I hope they get around to implementing it eventually.

I'll let you know about the recommendations. Thanks again!
