I cannot move songs within playlists

In the past, I could move songs within playlists (to put artists in alphabetical order).  However, if I now add a new song to a playlist, I must manually move it up nine or ten "slots" at a time until I can place it appropriately.  Why did this change, and is there a way to get back to quickly moving songs again?
