My Question or Issue

So I'm trying to get songs from my computer on to spotify but I've been having a few problems.

  1. I can't even find anything regarding local files on the app. Not in the settings or my playlists.
  2. When I open the spotify web player to try and look there, I can't even access my profile settings at all. I don't see settings icon or anything, and when I click on my profile icon I just get options for account, profile, or log out. Clicking on account or profile doesn't bring up settings.

Does anyone have a solution?

See this article. Make sure you add the local track to a playlist and you download that playlist from the desktop application and any other Spotify clients you wish to listen to the track with, such as the web player.

Like I said, I've tried following those steps, but I don't even have the option of local files in my settings. Not on the desktop version, the app for Chrome, or the android app.

The steps in the above article apply to the desktop app for macOS, Linux, and Windows. You must use the Spotify desktop app for one of these platforms to access your local files.

The Spotify desktop application for Chrome is really just the web player.

Hi folks,

Thank you for posting on the Community.

@Abi0p To start, I'd like to clarify that the Web Player doesn't show a Settings button, as it isn't the full app version and it has limited features.

Since you don't have the option to enable Local Files across different devices, can you log in with another account, such as a friend's or a family member's to see if you're able to see the setting? Alternatively, you can create a free account here, just make sure you're logged out of your own account before creating a new one.

Keep us posted!

Tried that and still nothing. The issue must be what the guy above said before about it just not working on Chrome OS. If it isn't that, then I have no idea what it could be.

Hey @Abi0p,

Thanks for keeping in touch.

That's right - as @Peter_Schorn mentioned, to import your Local files you need to use the desktop app. However, this app isn't available for Chromebook, as only the web player and the Android app are available there.

In this case, you'd need to import your files using a different computer, and then sync them to the Android app on your Chromebook.

Hope this clears things up. If you need anything else, the Community is here for you.

Cheers!
