Local Files on Mac

Local Files on Mac

I have looked up articles, done a clean uninstall, and reinstalled Spotify twice, but I can not get any local files to pop up on mac. In my Library, I see the section for the local files, but it says to "Add a source or turn off local files in Settings". I have tried putting my music (in mp3s) in a folder on my desktop that I linked in my settings to my local files, I have tried putting them in my downloads, and I have fully cleared my cache. I feel like I have tried everything. I used to have a windows computer and I immediately got my local files to work on there, but I now have a mac, I am confused as to what the problem is and why my Local Files are not popping up. I have Spotify Premium and I live in the US.

Hey @laurenllg,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

This type of issue is usually caused by some damaged cache stored on your Mac. First, make sure you've the latest version of the app by performing a clean reinstall of the app, following the steps in this article. This is often an overlooked step, but it's more thorough than a quick one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If the issue persists, check if the quality of the mp3 files is 320kbps or below and remember that all files must be downloaded from legal sources for the app to recognize them. We'd also recommend downloading a file from a different source and trying it to see if it makes any difference.

Lastly, and to make sure we're covering all the basics, check if the option Local files is toggled on in your app settings.

Hope this helps. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I found that only MP4s work for me, MP3s downloaded from anywhere do not pop up for some reason. I don't know why this is but I just converted all my Mp3s to Mp4s. Thank you though.
