So I recently updated Spotify to the most recent version. I usually haven't updated in the past. But I caved and wanted to try the DJ on mobile, to which I was told that not much had changed on the app. However, upon updating the app, I have found out that the app now has lost the saved filter ability in my music library. This wouldn't be an issue, but the custom sorting function (which has been around since I became a member back in 2013) is tied to the playlists filter in the music library.
On desktop, I can select the playlists button on the "Your Library" sidebar and I can continue to sort by custom. It even stays after the app gets closed on my desktop! Whereas with the mobile iOS app, I have to click it every time I reopen the app just to continue to see my custom sorted playlists. For someone like me who has over 300 saved playlists, artists, and albums, this becomes a huge issue. Regardless what the default sort is without the filter (some such as "creator" are so disorganized and cluttered), it is extremely difficult for me to find music because everything becomes so cluttered with the large library of playlists, artists, and albums I have acquired and saved from 2013 or earlier. This wouldn't be an issue if the last used filter (in my case, it's "playlists") was saved.
According to Spotify Cares on Twitter through DMs, this is how the "feature" is supposed to be working and is not a bug. This is bewildering to me since it disrupts the flow of how I, and many others, find, sort, and digest music, new and old.
Is there anything I am missing here to let me always have my custom order up on mobile? Why all of a sudden doesn't the mobile library behave the same way as the desktop library behaves regarding the filters? I would love to know that it is a bug, and not a proper function, since this just makes the experience worse and more difficult to use the app.
I am sure it is exhausting reading another user complain once more about the UX/UI but truthfully, many of these issues weren't there before, but are now. Even after the overhaul of the music library that occurred last year that seemed to upset a few people, the user could still always have their preferred sorting, thus allowing them to have as similar of an experience that they've always had. For some, this kind of change may make them move to a different competitor, such as Apple Music. I am more than happy providing a video or screenshots to further show my grievances and better explain how I believe the app could be bettered.
I just want to tailor my app how I like it and listen to my music how I want to, like I always have 😞
