Older playlists no longer play

Older playlists no longer play

Plan: Premium

Country: U.S.

Devices:

Spotify apps on laptop PC and Samsung Galaxy S10 +

Operating Systems:

Windows 10 on the PC and Android 10 on the Samsung

My Questions or Issue:

tl:dr Why won't my older playlists play?

How can I recreate them without reimporting each individual file.

I have been a premium member for seven or eight years and have had some playlists for just as long. Some of them contain hundreds of songs.

For some time, I have not been able to play older playlists. The songs are gray, and clicking on them brings up a blue bar at the top with the message: "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on  your computer you can import it."

But Spotify can never play them.

The songs have not been removed from Spotify.

I can find them and reimport them one by one.

But this takes hours and hours.

I've searched the help section and community blog but cannot seem to find a question on point.

Is there any solution for this?

I pasted one of the playlists below as an example.

Alternatively, how can I recreate the playlists without replacing each song?

It looks as if importing playlists is no longer an option?

I have tried:

- Exporting them out of Spotify into both .csv and xslx files and pasting them into the same playlist file or a new playlist file.

- Dragging the playlist out of Spotify onto my desktop and dragging it back into a new playlist.

Both of these were unsuccessful.

It also seems none of the websites that previously allowed one to convert/make  a playlist Spotify compatible work anymore.

Any suggestions?

Lastly, I like Spotify a lot. But the constant changes you make to its core functionality of creating playlists, playing music from those playlists, sorting those playlists, etc. has truly diminished the user experience over the years.

Thank you in advance for listening.

Hey there @TiminBend!

Thank you for reaching out to the Community about this.

When I opened the playlist I see that the grayed out songs were uploaded and added to the playlist as Local files.

Spotify can't play the tracks if the app can no longer find those files in the directory that you've linked in the settings.

We'd recommend checking that by clicking , then Settings and scrolling down to Local Files. You can take a look at this page for more info.

There isn't a built-in option in Spotify to import playlists from a text file yet. We can't recommend using any third party apps as we can't guarantee their security and functionality.

Hope this info helps. We'll be here if you have any further questions.
