Original Album Cover Art Not Showing

Original Album Cover Art Not Showing

Howdy, so this issue has been bugging my OCD brain for quite a while now. Certain songs will show a different cover art than the original. For example, Black Sabbath’s “N.I.B.” will show the compilation art rather than the album art. Or, Metallica’s “Sad But True” will show the remastered art rather than the original art. Could Spotify fix this issue? While minimal in severity, it definitely bugs me and I know bugs other individuals. Hopefully this can get around to be fixed!

Hey there, glad you asked in the Community!

Sometimes the content owner or the publisher decides to release different versions of the same content. If they release a remastered version or a super deluxe for example, they can remove the previous release to replace it with the newer versions or have both of them in the discography.

In this case, there is not much Spotify can do about it. Here it seems like you have saved (liked or in a playlist) the items. If there is any change or update for the content then Spotify will show you the content but consume the publicly available release. If they decide to take their content down, then the items will appear greyed out.

I have experienced this just recently. I saved an album and the songs in it but after a month now whenever I play a song from it, it shows a different cover art from a different release (but the same content). You can try one thing:

  1. Remove the saved item from your library (liked songs and playlists)
  2. Go into the discography or the search results and save the item again
  3. Now when you play, it will have the same cover art from when you saved it

I know this is not ideal but it depends on the rights owner/artist to change these. I hope that I was clear and let me know if you need help with anything else.
