Playlist Radio is being removed from the context menu

Playlist Radio is being removed from the context menu

In March 2023, we're removing the Playlist Radio option from the playlist context menu. We'd like to hear your thoughts and feedback about this change in the comments.

FAQ

Are we removing the whole radio feature?

No, we are only removing Playlist Radio. Track/artist and album radios will still be available.

Do we have features where users can have a similar experience?

Yes, right now we have the enhance button or the recently rolled out smart shuffle to give recommendations based on user-created playlists.

Still missing this feature dearly.

This is not a solution

How can this be 'Marked as solution'?!???

There's no solution.

Huh? Where is this "solution"? I just see the official confirmation that this is actually missing and nothing similar is existing.

This is not a solution. These are completely other features.

Edit: Spotify moved my criticism of their community treatment into this thread to hide it. Original:

[Spotify ignores the community] By closing the thread about removing playlist radio, which has over 1000 answers and no reaction of spotify whatsoever. Recently, the thread was closed as solved which is a farce.

As has been explained countless times - the suggested alternatives are NOT solutions.

Hey @Jordan, who merged my new topic into this one with the reason “Hey there, @meerow, I've moved your post back into the main thread on the topic, as it breaks point 2 of our Community Guidelines. Please note that breaking the guidelines again will result in a temporary ban.”

- You are wrong. My new topic wasn’t about the playlist radio feature, it was about Spotify ignoring the community. So your merge is incorrect and I also did not break any of the community rules. We all know what you are doing, trying to let this topic die without further notice. It awful, really.

Hi folks,

We can see that this thread has been getting a lot of attention, so we wanted to jump in and explain that we’re often testing and launching improvements and new features in order to provide our users with the best listening experience. This sometimes includes sunsetting older features in order to make room for new ones. While Playlist Radio has been removed, Song, Artist and Album Radios are still available and serve as valid alternatives.

As always, we'll continue to listen to user feedback, refine and introduce more ways for our users to easily search and stream the audio content they love. In the meantime, there's an existing idea about bringing back Playlist Radio, so feel free to add your vote to it, if you haven't already.

Take care.

Are you new to the Community? Take a moment to introduce yourself!

As you can see in over 1000 answers, album

and artist radio are NOT valid alternatives.

And your intentions are not to improve our listening experience, your intentions were to lower your computational capacities per user to save money and increase your profit. You are lowering the quality of your service to our disadvantage. And you ignore this thread for that exact reason. Don’t tell us it is for “better listening experience”.

Hey Dessi,

Thanks for sharing this terrible decision Spotify made to save money at the expense of the customer experience. Song, Artist, and Album Radios are absolutely NOT a valid alternative, just a crappy one. Glad I canceled my subscription.

NO... NO those are not valid alternatives!

If you'd read even some of the posts in this thread you'd see we've tried the alternatives and we don't find them valid at all!

Bring back PLAYLIST RADIO.

PLEASE.

So you talk about that other existing idea that emerged one day after the announcement? That idea that spotify is already ignoring for two years? I'm just asking for a friend, he's a bit slow, you know.

Everyone, go contact Spotify through a message and let them know your gripes. Include links to this thread and the idea exchange page with the votes!

This is an awful response. We’re all here still in 2025 because artist, album, and song radio are not sufficient. If they were, we would have moved on from this quite a while ago. Please bring back playlist radio.

Condescending corporate doublespeak.

You’re not "sunsetting"; you’re removing. You’re not "listening"; you’re ignoring.

Album and artist radios are not valid alternatives because they aren’t user-driven. Playlist Radio was unique in that it worked from a user-curated selection, offering infinitely more flexibility than a static artist or album radio.

Stop pretending this was an “improvement” when it was a downgrade.

This. Is. Not. A. Solution.

Please please PLEASE bring back playlist radio. Just finding similar songs isn't enough, I absolutely looooooved being able to have a playlist curated based on another existing one!!! Also on my Spotify I can't even find the Enhance button because even that would be helpful, only Smart Shuffle shows up for me but it only shows artists that are already on the playlist. The whole point is that I want to find new artists with similar vibes so PLEASE HELP!

I really miss the old feature. I find that the smart shuffle doesn’t really work the way it was intended to because it just seems to suggest the same songs over and over again, even when you dismiss them. I really liked the old feature because it helped me find new music and it was influenced by what I was listening to in the moment. The smart shuffle doesn’t do that because it just suggests the same songs over and over again, and I find that the suggested songs aren’t very good either. For example, I was listening to a playlist I made that consisted of all the albums I’m into right now. I tried to use smart shuffle to find similar artists and songs, but instead, smart shuffle just suggested songs I already had on my playlist. Which was annoying, of course. Spotify is definitely my preferred platform for listening to music, but I’m really sad to see this feature gone and there be no talk of bringing it back. If anything, I’d suggest removing smart shuffle because it sucks and I’ve never heard of anyone liking it.
