Podcasts Incorrectly being marked as 'Played'

Podcasts Incorrectly being marked as 'Played'

Plan:Premium

Country: USA

Device:(iPhone 11)

Operating System iOS 14.6

When a new Podcast comes out. For instance one came out today that I have NOT listened to they are automatically showing as 'Played'.

This is happening on my MAC desktop as well as mobile App.

What is going on here?

Hey there @gabep500,

Thanks for the post!

We'd recommend you try logging out Everywhere to force sync your account with the servers.

Also, send us a link/URI to the podcast episode in question, this will help us investigate why this might be happening.

Cheers.

I am having the same problem across different podcasts and it shows episodes played fully or halfway.
For example, I recently started a new podcast and had listened to a couple of episodes, after opening the app the next day to pick up where I left off- a whole bunch of episodes I had NOT listened to nor even opened showed as played or halfway played. I have noticed this bug for the last few weeks.

Hey @signepikkat

Thanks for reaching out about this and welcome to the Community!

Just to confirm, have you tried logging out everywhere by following the steps in the link @Alex sent previously?

On another note, would you mind checking if this happens across devices or only on a specific one? Additionally, sending us the podcasts' URI where you noticed this behavior would come in handy.

Lastly, could you let us know the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your devices?

We'll be on the lookout.

I am seeing this happen the last two days.  When I opened my laptop yesterday, Spotify updated, and then wasn't showing new episodes.  I went to the webplayer this morning to discover that a bunch of new episodes on my podcasts were showing played, that hadn't been played yet.

Hey @JobroBaggins123,

Thank you for joining the conversation.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, would you mind confirming if you've tried a clean reinstall of the app? This is often an overlooked step, but it’s more thorough than a quick one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

Also, could you confirm if you've also followed the troubleshooting previously mentioned by @Eni? If not, give it a try to see if it makes any difference.

Lastly, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

I am also having this issue a lot with multiple Podcasts. I like to personally download three episodes at a time for some of my podcasts to my episodes list but random ones will be marked as played despite never listening to them on either device.

I have also tried clearing my caches, reinstalling the app on my phone, and logging out of all my devices.

Hey there @pixelatedplant,

Thanks for posting here and welcome.

Kudos for that initial troubleshooting! In this case, we'd recommend resetting your password by heading over here. If your account is connected to a third-party service such as Google, Apple or Facebook, consider changing the password of that service as well.

Now, we'd like to gather some additional info in order for us to understand this behavior. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on the affected devices,
  • Does this also happen on the web player?
  • The make/model and exact OS version of your devices.
  • Does this happen on a specific show(s)? If yes, can you share with us the Spotify URL.

Keep us in the loop!

Thats what happens when you let these companies control their own metrics. They mess with them because greed. Will be written off as a glitch. Embarrassing behavior.
