My Question or Issue

"Recommended songs for you" autoplay at the end of a user-created playlist is highly repetitive. Irrespective of the individual playlist (doesn't matter what it sounds like -- chill, intense, whatever) the recommendation model seems to choose ~5 songs that it particularly thinks you're into at a given moment and play those. It's a pretty easy way to learn to hate a song that you otherwise love. This is not the case if you're listening to a single album or a spotify playlist with a tight theme, for which it does a pretty good job, but most of the time I'm listening to my own playlists.

A lot of posts have talked about that issue already, but I have a different but related one: When I click the hide button on recommended songs for you, I get the onscreen notification that the song is hidden, but that doesn't actually happen. Unlike in any other context, the song doesn't automatically skip after I click it and, more importantly, the next time recommended songs start playing it just plays the same song AGAIN. Basically, it doesn't work. Is this a known issue for recommended song autoplay? Any recommendations? Thanks for your time.

Hey @DustyDinkleman,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

The songs recommended at the bottom of a playlist are commonly related to the content of the playlist to make accurate suggestions that you may find interesting, but if it’s a mixed playlist, those suggestions could be based on your personal engagement with Spotify, actions such as searching, listening, skipping, or saving to Your Library influence the app's interpretation of your taste. You can check all the related info in this article.

However, the behavior you're reporting about the "Hide" button is odd. So in this case, to start investigating this case, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

If it doesn't happen on a different device, it's worth performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article to replace any damaged file that may be affecting the button's proper behavior.

Let us know how it goes, we'll be on the lookout.

Hey sorry to take so long to get back to this. I just tried the same thing on my partner’s phone after logging in as myself and found the same behavior. She then logged back in on her account and I confirmed she also has the same behavior. For thoroughness, I uninstalled and reinstalled my spotify app and it’s still happening. So, this is a real problem and seems to happen to more than just myself.

Hey @DustyDinkleman,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

In order to investigate this further, include in your next response the make, model and OS version of the other device you tried, along with the Spotify version you're both currently running.

Also, could you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to watch it).

We'll be on the lookout.
