My Question or Issue

Greetings, I have a question about saving playlists created by Spotify such as the Daily Mix series. It usually provides me with 6 different ones of various genres/themes. It had me stumped for a bit until the name actually sunk in. "Daily" mix. Meaning it changes daily which really bugged me several times as it would create this kick a$$ playlist that I absolutely loved but then I'd try to go back to it only to find that it was replaced with a bunch of other tunes that just didn't hit the spot like it had previously.

My question is, since there doesn't seem to be a way to go back and find previous versions of these playlists, if I save them as playlists in my library, and/or download the entire playlist, will these songs be changed when the playlist changes again?

Hey there @Dell_Ray

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

The Daily mix playlists update everyday. In this case, it's not possible to listen to the songs from the previous day, even if you downloaded the playlist, since it will download the songs that are in the current playlist.

However, you can create a new playlist and copy all the songs from the Daily mix you liked so you can have all those songs saved.

You can do it easily in the desktop app by following these steps:

  • Go to your Daily Mix
  • Select all songs using the keyboard CMD+A (Mac) or CTRL+A (Windows)
  • Drag them to a new playlist

I definitely used to save Spotify-created playlists, I have a few in a folder - a daily mix from a specific date that as you say was really good, so I just hit save. And it did.

But I sent a link to a mix which I'd saved recently and... the next day all the songs were different.
I did not want to save a LINK to the shifting daily mix. I wanted to capture it!

Apparently my mistake was doing 'save to library' on Desktop, which again, makes no sense - all the daily mix links are on the homepage, why would I just want a link in my library? I thought it would save the actual songs, static in that list, when I hit save.

Now, I guess, it's gone forever. I know what date it is, but presumably there is nowhere this huge amount of data is saved 😕

Really not liking the new interface, it's frustrating.

This was changed wasn't it?
I have playlists saved from 2019 and 2020, I'm sure the default was Save As, not just Save a Link, which honestly is useless. The links are always accessible from Home. The default should be: Save as a playlist (by me) so that people can go back to the song list later.

Hey @noodlemaz,

Thanks for reaching out.

Saving a playlist to Your Library does indeed save only a link to it for ease of access and not the current state of the playlist. To save the contents of a playlist, simply use the steps provided by @Eni above or the Add to other playlist action from the playlist context menu.

We hope this helps. Let us know if you have other questions.
