Hi @airtas,

Thanks for bringing up this issue; I tried reproducing the problem with my own playlists and might have come up with a solution. If you have the same song in multiple playlists under the same folder, then the duplicates will be in the queue when you play music from that folder. It is strange how they are all back to back in the queue for you though; I was not able to replicate that with my duplicate songs.

I know its a bit more work, but my workaround was to create a separate playlist and add the songs from each playlist to that new one. To select all songs, at least on a windows computer, I left click the top song once to highlight, then scroll to the bottom and hold shift + left click the last song, then right click and "add to playlist". When a duplicate song is recognized, you will get a popup that give you the option to "Add All" or "Add New Ones". By clicking "Add New Ones", it will omit the the duplicates and you'll eventually have a combined playlist with no duplicates. I've added a few images to show the steps.

I know this is not the solution you are looking for, but it is a workaround. I will create a "New Idea" to address this issue to bring awareness to the topic since I also find it a hassle. I think the idea should be called "Option to omit duplicate songs when adding multiple playlists to a folder".

Please reach out if you have any other questions and I'll dive deeper if needed.

Thanks!

Thank you!

I do think there is some sort of bug because the dups are consecutive and it happens often.

Your work around works but the drawback is it needs to be redone each time the playlist updates.

I’ve escalated the issue so one of the Spotify moderators should be able to step in and see if they have a more permanent solution. Thanks for reaching out to us, we’ll do our best to find you an answer.

Hi again, @airtas,

I spoke with one of our moderators and this was their response:

"We can confirm that's how the Shuffle feature in folders works. The reason might be because it's the very same song being in multiple playlists and the app tries to add them in the same position in the queue. In this case, the best thing to do, as you suggested, is to redirect the user to the idea you submitted about this."

I went ahead and posted the idea here.

Leave a comment in that thread if you think I may have miscommunicated the issue. I wish we had a better solution for you (and for all of us really), but the first step was to bring awareness to a flaw, and we have now.

Cheers!
