My Question or Issue
When I get in my vehicle to go to work some mornings, Spotify will play One Driection. I hate One Direction, I have NEVER put them in ANY of my playlists, and I don't have smart shuffle turned on. It happened again this morning. I will get it, the phone will connect with my vehicle, and One Direction will start playing part way through the song. I don't even know the name of the song. I wish I did so I could be more descriptive. It seems to be the same song every time, but I can't be positive. As soon as I open the app, the last playlist I was listening to starts up. I try to go to Recents to see what it is, but the One Direction music does not show up in the recents. It's not the end of the world, but it is irritating as all heck and I have no idea why it is happening all the time. At least it could pick a good artist or song.....
Hey @MusicJunkie27,
Thanks for posting in the Community!
Could you let us know if this only happens when your phone connects to your vehicle and have you performed any troubleshooting steps so far? Does this happen both on iOS and Android and did you notice when the behavior started?
You can start with restricting One Direction by opening their profile on Spotify > three dots > Don't play this artist.
I also recommend a clean reinstall just in case as it helps resolve different performance issues. You can follow the steps here.
Keep us posted on how it goes 🙂
Hey @MusicJunkie27,
Thanks for getting back to us and letting us know.
Take your time to test it and let's hope it'll do the trick. If not, give us a shout and we'll be here to help.
Cheers 🙂
Well, blocking One Direction didn't work.... They came on again this morning..... Only difference this time is that it was at the end of the song. I let it play through to see what would come on next. It ended up being Thompson Twins "If You Were Here". Not a bod song overall, but not in any of my playlists. When I opened the app, the "now playing" was still the last song I had been listening to, but the Thompson Twins song was playing. I couldn't see where there was a playlist that the Thompson Twins song was playing from. It didn't show up in anything on my screen. When I navigated down to the now playing and clicked on it, my song came on. This is very strange. Like I said, it's not the end of the world, and it certainly wouldn't make me want to give up Spotify, but it is very odd, and it would be great if it didn't happen....
Hey there @MusicJunkie27,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop here!
Just to confirm, do you have the Spotify app installed directly on your car's media system? If so, could you double-check that you're logged in to the same Spotify account on your phone (as the one in your car)? You can check this by heading over to the app settings. Alternatively, you can try logging out from the app in the car and on your phone, and when you log back in again, make sure to manually enter your login details.
Also, as you mention that this sometimes happens in the middle or towards the end of the track, you can try removing 3rd party apps that are linked to your account to see if you notice a difference. For example, you can start with removing the apps you don't use or you don't recognize. This can be done on the account page here > Manage app. To re-link an app later on, you just need to log back in to Spotify on that service.
Should this behavior persist, after checking the steps above, it would be great if you could send us a screenshot of how things look on the mobile app, along with a picture/short video of your dashboard when this happens. Should the files be too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us as unlisted YouTube videos or via Google Drive.
Let us know how you get on!
