This is the old look, and also the current web version.
And this is the new look, the current windows app.
If it is song I don't have in any of my playlists, there is a plus sign instead.
So this is how it works:
- That checkmark is not as same as the old heart. It doesn't show "liked", it shows "its in your playlist" or not.
- If there is a plus button instead of a checkmark, that means it's not in any of your playlists, and you can click on that to add to "liked" playlist. That part works as same.
- When you click on checkmark, it shows you what playlists you have it on. That's the only good thing about it.
- The checkmark only shows when you hover on a song instead of always showing it. (that's bad) I wanna see what songs I liked, but I can't.
Now every song in my playlist has a checkmark, and I can't even see if I liked them without clicking "more options", the checkmark only appears when I hover too... That is not useful at all for the users that mainly use a playlist. There is no settings about it either.
My desire is to either be able to turn it on/off from the settings or have both "heart" button and "add to playlist" button there. The change is just inconsiderate and disrespectful to playlist-only users.
For more info on this change and to post your feedback, check out this post:
➜ The ♡ Heart button is being replaced with a (+) Plus button
When you click on the (+) Plus button on a song in the desktop app, the song will be saved to your Liked Songs. The only difference is that now you can quickly tap the (+) Plus button again to add the song to your other playlists too! When you tap the button again, you'll also see the other playlists that the song has already been added to with a green ✔ Check icon.
If you are using the Web Player in the browser, you might not see the new (+) Plus button experience yet, but it will be rolling out to the Web Player soon as well.
Thanks for the reply. My problems with this is as follows, (also commented on the post you've linked)
- I'd like to be able to see what songs I liked, both in my own playlists and in other playlists. I used "like"s as a mark a lot. I visualized my experience for myself, basically.
- If I'm on my own playlist, this change is nothing but a downgrade. Every song there has the checkmark, and I cannot distinguish between the songs I specifically "liked".
I do understand the usage of easily selecting the playlist, and that is appreciated, but I do not wanna lose how I easily saw what songs I "like"d, especially in my own playlists.
It's actually devastating. That sounds dramatic but I used the green heart so much, for what I call 'maybe' songs ie songs I can decide are good enough to buy. But after a few listens I would reach a verdict - either buy it or discard it. Whatever the outcome was I would then just click 'off' the green heart. That simple action has now been 'updated' to involve 2 actions - go on to the song and then 'remove song'. So more complicated. Why? Why make things clunkier. I hate updates. They so rarely make my life better.
This is an awful change. Please, have an option to have the old behavior. As others have said, we want to track songs that we like. I want to listen to music that I like again. I find this music by adding lots of music to the queue. Then as the music plays, if I like a song, I want to quickly click it to like it. I cannot easily do that. There is soooo much blank space. Please, put a heart button or something like that.
I just noticed this change myself
It seems to me that this change is both good and bad and I have made a suggestion in the following comment for how the function could include the new features without spoiling the old functionality altogether, as it has:

this category is literally “your library” so why can’t I see which songs are in my library vs songs in random playlists?? Saving a song to a playlist is not the same thing as saving a song to your library
So in this playlist, out of those Top 9… 3 of them were already saved to my library and it only shows me that since this is not my own playlist but now if I create a copy of that playlist and basically make it my own
Now it doesn’t show me anything since it doesn’t matter anymore what songs were previously in my saved songs library as this new playlist basically considers all these songs as part of my library even tho they’re not and I have no way of knowing that anymore like zero clue
and now for the best part…
it looks like all these songs are in my saved library and again I have 0 way of telling the difference right away unless I manually click on every single one of these songs to see whether they’re saved to my library or playlist like this all makes perfect sense so please how hard is it to use 2 saved songs icons:
💚for songs saved in your library
✅for songs saved in a playlist
💚✅If they’re saved in both then perhaps prioritize songs saved in your library or just use 2 icons or just use another icon or something
I DON'T WANT TO LIKE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE? I JUST WANT TO ADD IT TO ONE OF MY LISTS, I DON'T WANT THAT SONG TO BE ON MY "LIKED SONGS" LIST, FOR THAT EVERYTIME I HAVE TO CLICK ONE MORE TIME TO REMOVE IT FROM THE "LIKED SONGS" LIST
