My Question or Issue

So I've done some reading on getting local files form my computer onto my mobile, and everything I've seen says to 1) create a playlist of the local files on the computer, 2) do to the mobile and download the files from said playlist.

I've done this and only certain songs form my playlist actually downloads to my mobile; the others stay greyed out. Now, I'm doing this because the songs I'm trying to play are not available in my country. Is this the reason why Spotify won't give me access? If so, it means that it's not an actual upload, but just a mirror copy from the main library...?

Thanks

Hey @Pixlplague,

Thanks for your post! The way syncing local files to Android has worked up to this point is as you described. Both the Android device and desktop had to be connected to the same WiFi network, and both apps needed to be running while syncing the playlist. The local tracks would simply be transferred over the WiFi network from the desktop computer to your phone.

Very recently, Android has been updated to support local files that have been added directly to your phone's storage via USB and so forth. Please check out this page for more details on activating the feature on your phone so that Spotify can access your local files.

I hope that helps, but just let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the reply. I con confirm that the files do NOT transfer over wifi: I suspect the file metadata is, but if they are not available in the main Spotify library, then they won't download.

I did make it work by uploading the files to the phone's local storage, and it works, but I really don't like the fact Spotify then shows ALL audio files on the phone; I don't want my hundreds of voice memos or call recordings in my playlists, but yet here we are lol

Hey @Pixlplague,

Thanks for the reply.

In this case, you can try altering the metadata of the files which won't upload and try to reupload the from your PC to the phone over WiFi.

You can also try creating a mobile hotspot and connecting both the PC and phone to that network. Some home routers don't support certain networking protocols required for the successful sharing on some file types across devices, which could also be causing some of your songs to be unplayable on the mobile.

Hope this helps 🙂
